Secure network for Calibre Computing

Secure network for Calibre Computing

Calibre Computing has been established since 1990 and in that time has provided innovative IT solutions and services to industries such as the Real Estate sector, International Freight forwarding, Vehicle Fleet Management, Timber & Hardware, Health Services, Insurance, Sports Management, and CD/DVD/Video distribution to name a few.

Customer Need

Calibre delivers quality solutions to their customers, and as such requires a partnership with an ISP that can deliver a secure, high performance and reliable network to deploy private WAN solutions to their customers.

Our Solution

GCOMM provides Calibre with a wide range of services ranging from Private Ethernet Networks to SHDSL Internet connections on a wholesale basis. Calibre was able to implement a fully managed private network for their client Root Projects; who required a secure and reliable private network to share project information between sites. This has given Calibre the ability to provide not only Systems Integration services, but to implement and design WAN’s to offer a ‘One-Vendor Solution’ to their clients.

Key Benefits to Calibre Computing

> A redundant national network proven to be high speed, secure and reliable
> The ability to provide an MPLS private network using any last mile technology throughout Australia
> A wide range of products and service offerings nationally
> A 14x5 NOC with a proactive support team
> No minimum recurring revenue commitment to become a partner
> Pre-sales and project management are provided as part of the service

Interview

I became involved with Calibre Computing in June this year, they were a wholesale partner I had dealt with previously on a technical level as presales support. A lot of their customers are high profile companies such as Mitre 10, the Timco Range etc. These companies run a lot of POS and edge network devices, which require QOS enabled private networks for reliable high speed and secure data transmissions. We've deployed solutions for them like these in South Australia.

Calibre Computing came to me with their list of requirements. Mark at Calibre came to me and said this is what our client does, and this is what they require, this is what they’ve currently got, and this is why it’s not currently working for them. So I designed the solution, and determined the right connectivity at each particular location, and put it all together in an MPLS private IP network.

The client has a lot of confidential documents they need to transfer. There’s a significant amount  of project work they’re doing in airports and they need that secured, and they really need a high-speed network at the right price as well. The previous connectivity options that they had through a national carrier were simply not up to the job. I’ve worked on quite a few projects like this, and a lot bigger ones for other (retail) customers. The options we have as a multi-carrier tail circuit solution gave us the ability to offer more and better options to the end user.

We’ve done about ten of these solution for this particular partner and every one has been flawless in delivery and service, so we know it was the right solution and we’re quite confident in our product. There haven’t been any hurdles to date. So far everything has been running smoothly and we get two thumbs up from the customer at this stage. Every now and then you do get issues with IP addressing, and sometimes if the customer wants to configure the devices themselves, they might get a bit confused with what IP addresses go where. But in this particular instance it was a fully managed service where we configured all the CPE (routers) and shipped them all to site and deployed it for the client.

The most significant benefit to Caliber’s client operations are the speed and reliability of the circuits. Service uptime is 100% to date. We have feedback that the speed has been fantastic, and the latency is really, really low, which is exactly what they were looking for.

Before Calibre came to us they were simply reselling a standard Telstra product. They didn’t really have a proper, cost effective Private Network solution with as many options as we could deliver into our network such as multiple carriers, different tail options and flexible account management that we offer. So really they were quite limited beforehand. And not just that, they’ve got excellent support here, and we’ve got a strong and developing relationship now, and it’s that relationship that gives them confidence to sell up to their customers because they know that they’re going to get excellent support services, and the service is going to be second to none.

So far so good, everything has been flawless. We monitor them daily on our Netview statistics and it’s shown 100 percent uptime at this stage so the three sites are all running perfectly well.

I guess the technology is always changing but the infrastructure is always going to be fairly similar – it just gets faster I guess. I mean they’re running fibre at two sites and BDSL at the other side of the airport so they’re pretty rock-solid technologies – at least fibre is. And once the infrastructure is laid you can run other services across it, I mean they’re doing voice over it, and maybe they’ll do video conferencing. So there are other services that we can offer. And probably next month we’ll offer these guys our Live Backup product, which is just another real benefit to their network because then they can get offsite backups and everything runs over the Private Network as well.
