There is a new segment in the computing market that has all the manufacturers buzzing. The Netbook. A Netbook is a small low cost and ultra-portable computer designed as an internet connected device, perfect for web browsing, video conferencing, presentations and other non CPU intensive use. Perfect for students or as an adjunct to a full desktop system for people who go on the road and want more than you can get from a handheld device. the Netbook is a truly new category of computers and commercial success has seen the manufacturers release a myriad of models to the market.

Recently the author decided to purchase a Netbook for his daughter entering high school. Several models were investigated for features, capacity, performance, looks (it was for a girl after all..) and of course - price. Brands including Asus, Toshiba, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Dell and Fujitsu were investigated. Eventually – after a probably inordinate amount of time spent clicking around the net, the MSI Wind U100 (in pink – also available in black & white) was chosen. The result, a very happy young lady and a very satisfied and admittedly spendthrift father.
